The Challenge
Within 6 weeks, brainstorm and conceptualize a project from scratch, going through every step of the design process, from discovery to delivery. I used industry standard tools and methodologies to define scope, research plan and ideate before finding a design solution. Since it’s a new product, another challenge was to apply UX writing principles to create the brand voice and communicate clearly communicate the concept to users. Research
Once the project’s scope and stakeholder requirements were defined, it was time to analyze competitors and understand user needs. At this point my main goals were to learn how users discover movies, compare sessions and make decisions and, to evaluate Cineperto’s usability by testing its primary user flow.
I’ve analyzed ticket platforms, theater and movie specialized websites to map features, user reviews and, identify market gaps and opportunities.
The target audience is people 18 years and older, who go the cinema and like to discover movie releases, explore theaters and film festivals in the city. Most are Android users.
I conducted interviews with 6 users to understand their behavior, pain points and expectations with existing solutions.
After each user interview, I conducted a usability test to identify gaps on Cineperto’s primary user flow, a step that helped on future decisions.
Analysis
Problem definition and hypothesis

Without structured UX and cohesive UI users may face confusion and information overload, hindering decision making, causing them to abandon the platform before completing their task.
1
User hypothesis:
- Existing solutions do not allow users to easily view sessions across multiple cinemas in one place.
- Moviegoers value discovering free and special sessions, but struggle to easily find this information.
2
Potential UI risks:
- Current filtering system doesn’t give users full control to search for sessions and needs refinement.
- The navigation is overly complex and exposes technical details that are not relevant to the user journey.

Style guide
UI Design
Homepage
Before
- Empty home page
- Low contrast between copy and background
After
- Clear onboarding with useful information for the users
- Better SEO and optimized for search indexing
- Improved CTA copy to share GPS location in one tap
Outcomes and takeaways
What changed:
- Bounce rate dropped from 67% to 37% after the UX/UI update
- The client is visiting small and independent theaters to distribute stickers I designed, the feedback is positive and brings in more users
- Visibility increased and site visit went up 284%
What I would improve:
- Run a survey to gather quantitative data and get a wider range of information to back up UX decisions
- Define a better strategy to the home page. Currently, the founder/developer manually change it on a weekly basis to showcase releases
- Apply UX writing principles to improve content and copy
